Acute hives also known as acute urticaria lasts only for brief period and does not remain for long. It is mostly triggered by viral infections, side effects of drugs, insect stings and food allergies. However antihistamines are known to cause side effects in some people and should be taken before going to bed as it causes drowsiness.
