Severity of cold hives symptoms vary from person to person. Some people have minor reactions while other has severe reactions to cold. The symptoms of cold hives start immediately after skin is exposed to cool temperature or a sudden drop in air or water temperature. In many cases, cold hives occur when skin is exposed to temperature lower than 4.4 degree Celsius or 40 degree Fahrenheit. Some of the common symptoms of cold hives include:

  • Reddish, itchy welts on area of skin exposed to cold
  • Welts usually last for about half an hour
  • Swelling of hands while holding cold object
  • Swelling of lips while eating refrigerated food
