Hives are skin infection which resembles round or oval swellings on any part of the body but mostly affects your exposed parts of body like hands and legs. It gives you itchy irritating feeling often accompanied by hot burning sensations. Medically, hives are caused due to secretions of mast cells which affect the blood vessels of the skin. Allergies may also result in skin rashes which resembles hives.
It is important to know about different types of hives. Hives are mainly of two following types:

- Physical hives
Ordinary hives are also known as ordinary urticaria and is caused without any known reason and appear all of a sudden. There is no defined time frame for its recovery. It may last for some time with a range of few hours to some days and usually accompanied by the symptoms such as red patches in the form of skin rashes which causes itchy feeling on the affected area, swollen face and lips, runny nose and fever. Ordinary hives do not remain for long duration and often gets cured easily.
Physical hives are also referred as physical urticaria and often result due to excessive scratching. It is mainly caused due to allergies due to external stimuli factors like excess heat and cold temperature, sunshine, water and physical workout. There are some other types of hives also which includes idiopathic hives, chronic hives, and acute hives.

Idiopathic hives are caused without any known cause and it is very difficult to detect the factors responsible for its cause.
